The secret recipe for “Doreen’s Black Pudding” was devised by Doreen Haigh over 20 years ago and is oven baked rather than boiled. This concentrates the black pudding flavour in the most effective way possible. Last year Arthur Haigh won the 25th Great Yorkshire Pie, Sausage and Black Pudding Competition with their traditional entry Doreen’s Black Pudding.

They also won the trophy for the best black pudding for the second year running. This carries on from their International Award for the Best Black Pudding of the Year in 2002.

Bleiker’s Smokehouse is a thriving family run business based in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Only the best North Sea Herrings, landed in Yorkshire, are used for their Kippers which were credited with a Gold Award at the 2003 Guild of Fine Foods' Great Taste Awards. Only the finest salmon is selected by Bleiker's for smoking & curing. It is reared in wild conditions and low-density stocking off the north-west coast of Scotland where the fish have room to swim freely and are hand-fed.

In 1898 Asa Nicholson started baking Oat Bread (an oval, pancake-like bread in slices made from oats) and set up his own small bakery at Bottomley Holes ("Bod'oiles" to the locals) - about a quarter of a mile from the present site at Keelham near Denholme. By the 1920s, Asa's sons, Clifford & Wilfred, joined the expanding business and started making bread and other items. The business has always operated as a friendly family affair and is currently run by Asa's grandson and great-grandson.
